11U County Cup Finals

July 27, 2021

This weekend our 11U boys were in action at the LTA County Cup National Finals.

The event featured some exceptionally strong teams and individual players, and whilst Middlesex were one of the three top ranked teams on paper, the competition proved to be extremely close on the courts.

Peter Neathey and Leon Achille were in charge of our boys team, who  benefited hugely from the event and the overall experience.

Overall top four standings were:

  • 1st Surrey
  • 2nd South Wales
  • 3rd Middlesex
  • 4th Yorkshire

Our campaign began on the Friday with a 6-0 defeat of Avon.

On Saturday, we lost 2-4 to Surrey, and whilst Surrey top end were stronger, we did not capitalise enough lower down the order and in the doubles where we lost three matches on championship tie breakers.

Our 2nd match on the Saturday was again close, finishing 3-3 with Cheshire with the boys then winning the final shoot out doubles tie break.

This placed us in a final 2nd position in our box, and meant we played Yorkshire for 3rd/4th play off, finishing convincingly 5/1.

Overall a good weekend, though I know Peter feels, we didn’t take our chances against Surrey who took the title.

A summary of the LTA champions race top teams  is now as follows going in County Week:

1. Surrey 107

2. Yorkshire 103

3 = Middlesex 96

3 = Herts 96

Lots to play for and as we know anything can happen.

 We shall follow progress of our teams at county week and best of luck to all.
