2020 Babolat Middx Mini Masters Series

December 15, 2020

What a season!

As soon as competitions were allowed to return we got back into action and set up a number of grade 6s across Middlesex from 8U to 10U. To support local organisers and competitions, we incorporated grade 3-5 events between September and December into our Leaderboards to give ample opportunity to players wanting to compete.

We have so far held 96 qualifying events with 100 green players and 70 orange players with 2 red qualifying events yet to be played. The red finals will be on Wednesday 30th December at Ealing LTC.

The 10U Green and 9U Orange finals were held on 12-13th December at Hazelwood sports club, organised by competitions co-ordinator Sangeeta Arora and assisted by Lola-Juliet Omran.

We expanded the 10U finals to 12 girls and 16 boys and ran the finals as a compass draw meaning all players played 3 or 4 matches. Some epic matches throughout both the boys and girls events with 11 matches going to a tie-break. We played round 1 of the boys on the clay, to start as early as possible and still ran an hour late, finally finishing the finals at 8.00 pm.

Giselle Jolie Fiorentino took the 10U girls event coming through a high quality tie break in the semi-finals v Alicia and carrying on the momentum to take the title v Lara in the finals. Karim El Sayed saved match points in the quarter-finals and took the title 4-3(3) v Alex McAleavy in the finals event.

Powerful shots, tremendous energy and excellent endurance could be used to describe many of the rallies witnessed throughout the 10s.

On Sunday we welcomed the 9U players to Hazelwood. Starting off with the girls, there was great fight in the rallies and matches with Zuzanna Dziok and Emily Craven reaching the finals. Zuzanna took and early lead and held off a fightback to take the title 10-7.

In the boys, Noah Morgan and Jack Fresnais topped their respective groups, undefeated to reach the finals with Noah taking the title 10-6.

There was time to give both the boys and the girls, one round of doubles which all players enjoyed and took the pressure off from the singles. Everybody left happy with a big smile.

We can't wait for the red ball finals.
