Men's Senior Player of the Year Award 2020 from the LTA
September 15, 2020
One of Middlesex's oldest tennis players, Lennie Lawrence, who is 91 years old, received the Seniors Tennis GB men's player of the year award (for 2019).
This was part of the LTA players' awards which this year was held virtually via Zoom.
However yesterday we were able to physically present Lennie with his trophy.
This took place at Chandos where Lennie is a member (and has been for years) and was attended by Ed Oakenfull (STGB's head selector) , Michelle Barber as part of STGB and Middlesex Seniors Tennis rep as well as Lennie's wife, daughter and Jan Feldman from Chandos.
One of 18 national winners, Lennie Lawrence received the performance accolade from the governing body for tennis in Britain on account of his superb performances on court.
Lennie wins this award for having captained GB's men’s over 85s in the ITF Super Seniors World Team Championships, bringing home a bronze medal for his country.
He was the winner of the Seniors British Grass Courts 85s Singles at Wimbledon and has captained the British team for many years.
Having not taken up tennis until the age of 35, Lennie is without doubt an inspiration to all players at all ages.
