Regional LTA Award Winners

Congratulations to the four Middlesex Award Winners who have also been recognised regionally. All Regional winners are put forward towards the National Awards.

LTA Young Volunteer of the Year - Tom Roberts

Tom started volunteering with Metro Blind sports as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award in 2017 at Islington Tennis Centre for their weekly tennis sessions. Tom has been quick to learn how to lead and adapt to the different players each session.

He has shown good leadership and been responsible for helping younger or newer volunteers learn what is needed.

LTA Official of the Year - Maureen McGuinness

Maureen has had an outstanding year of officiating in 2019. In July she passed a five-day ITF Level 2 School to gain her ITF White Badge as a Chair Umpire. Maureen has achieved several firsts in 2019: making her Fed Cup debut as a line umpire for the GB vs Kazakhstan tieat the Copper Box in April and making her Davis Cup debut in Norway in September,her first selection to officiate overseas. Maureen also chaired a match during the Fever Tree Championships at Queen's Club for the first time in the junior international event.  Maureen umpired at seven ITF Pro-Series events throughout 2019, including chairing three matches in Chiswick in August.

In total Maureen has worked over 40 umpiring days in 2019 ranging from grassroots level to the highest level of the professional game.

LTA Club of the Year - Eastcote LTC

Eastcote LTC achieved many notable successes in 2019.

  • Grew their junior coaching programme, and in partnership with London Borough of Hillingdon and Harrow, the club provides tennis to over 450 children per week throughout the year.
  • Proven Pathway for junior players with 15 juniors competing in adult teams and 4 ex-juniors gained 1st team places in their university teams
  • An increase of 5 teams competing in Middlesex Leagues

In October Eastcote suffered a second devastating flood which threatened to damage all six courts irreparably. In a coach led effort, the club's members came together and launched an immediate clean up effort.

LTA Disability Award - Get Set 4 Tennis

Get Set 4 Tennis commenced their SEND programme in October 2018 with funding from Middlesex Tennis. They have since raised over £21 000 of funding from external sources.

This has enabled the delivery of tennis in 8 SEN Schools to 200+ children as part of their specially adapted tennis programme. In addition to this they have 800 children on their programme in before, afterschool and weekend sessions.
