Junior Tennis Academy experiences different tennis culture

Junior coaching trip to Angie Kerber Tennis Academy

ULTC Academy (Uxbridge Lawn Tennis Club performance programme ) is headed up by Middlesex 10U Performance Lead Stuart Wilkinson.

Recently, Stuart Wilkinson took a group of his junior performance players on an overseas training camp. Here’s what he discovered:

As a small club performance programme we wanted to provide an opportunity for our junior academy members to experience a different culture within tennis both on and off the court.

After researching numerous overseas academies we decided on the Angie Kerber Tennis Academy in Poznan, Poland.

The three main factors we considered were:

  1. Cost effective
  2. Accommodation and courts were in one facility
  3. Flexibility of utilising courts and the Kerber coaches along with our own coaches.

The party included 14 players (aged 9 to 17 years), 4 coaches and 2 parent chaperones.”

The Kerber Tennis Academy provided breakfast, lunch and dinner; morning fitness training and an on-court morning coaching session.

The ULTC coaches supervised these sessions and then ran our own on court programme in the afternoon.

Each day consisted of 1 hour of fitness plus 3-4 hours on court.

In the evening the group came together and had a mix of activities (quiz night , reaction Olympics, table tennis matches or table football matches).

It was a lovely indoor tennis centre with friendly polish coaches, and a great team environment which allowed some of our juniors their first overseas tennis experience.”

Great to see Middlesex Junior players Dragus, Matteo and Max included in the party.

Thanks to Middlesex coaches James Mott, Glenn Norman and Vera Antonova.
