Andrew Lewandowski, Chief Executive and Phil Veasey, Chairman reflect on a fantastic achievement for the County.
Andrew Lewandowski CEO for Middlesex Tennis, reflects on the huge achievement of our County in winning the LTA County Cup Race for the first time since 2020.
“There are few things in tennis which match playing as part of a team, and for every young player representing their county it is really an honour, privilege and above all a pleasure. The enjoyment, team spirit competitiveness and fair play were fully on show from every team throughout the season and the captains and players should all be recognised and congratulated for their fantastic performances.
The results from Nottingham last weekend confirmed our position as the number one county and Champions in the LTA County Cup Race in which all county cup results starting as young as 9u to senior 35s are aggregated into a league table concluding with the 12u event.
It may now seem a distant memory of the Girls 18U securing a well earned silver in group one played out in Bath and the Boys gaining promotion back, but each match and each result a significant contribution from the team and players committing to representing their county.
Achieving this accolade is a tremendous achievement and wrestling the title away from Surrey our number one rival who have an incredibly strong quality of teams and players marks this out as a really significant result.”
Phil Veasey, Chairman of Middlesex Tennis, could not be more proud.
“Everyone in the Middlesex Tennis family – our players, coaches, parents, officials, trustees, and staff – should be very proud of winning the County Cup Race – it’s like winning the Premier League in Football!
Over the past four years we have developed so many good things – female coaches leading all of the female teams, supporting 250 children and young people in county training, bringing in Matt Little to work with players and parents on the mental and physical side of the sport, sending players and coaches overseas to train and learn, staging a rejuvenated County Championships, and setting up the Performance Foundation, and establishing the Middlesex Training Centre at Georgians – to name a few.
There’s no silver bullet – but if there is a key to our success – it’s the pride we all share when we put on our Middlesex kit and go onto court!
Congratulations everyone!”
Thanks to all our players – quite simply the best!
Details of the 2026 LTA County Cup Race final results will be shared as soon as we have them.
