2019 COUNTY CUP RACE CHAMPIONS

November 30, 2019

Middlesex Tennis is very proud to announce that following the final events of the year we have been crowned National Winners of the LTA County Cup Champions Race for 2019.

The champions Race is decided by taking into account all of the LTA Official County Cup Events which run across all age groups from 9u to 35 and over.

The LTA Champions Race Leader board was established in 2015 and this is the first occasion Middlesex has finished in 1st position to win the overall race.

Middlesex Tennis achieved the no 1 position by amassing a total of 231 points, convincingly  defeating 2nd placed Yorkshire and 3rd placed Hertfordshire, by over 22 points.

It has truly been a tremendous team effort with many outstanding performances and collective wins by the players, expertise and dedication from the county coaching and support team, as well as commitment and support from many  dedicated parents.

In winning the champions race a special mention must be made to the 5 national winning teams which include:

18u  National Girls Champions - Captains; Ronnie Maxwell, Louise Hutchinson
14u National Girls Champions - Captain; Claire Taylor
10u National Boys Champions - Captain; Peter Neathey
10u National Girls Champions - Captains; Monica Becerra Flavia Fabrini
35 over Women’s National Champions - Captain; Fran Brewster.

Additionally our 9u boys and girls combined team won the regional LTA County Cup for the second year in succession under the inspired captaincy of Linda Jones, Marina Lavarello and James Mott.

It is an exciting time for Middlesex tennis as the contribution of younger teams was a deciding factor. The 10u championships have never been won by both boys and girls teams in the same year by any county, with Middlesex now achieving and raising this benchmark, and this is a great indicator of better things to come.

The girls 14u team won the National Title for the second year in succession, and the 18u girls also achieving victory with very young players within the group.

The County intends to celebrate this amazing success as part of the Middlesex Tennis Awards Evening which will be held at the Hurlingham Club on Friday 13th March 2020.

At the event, each player who represented the County as part of the LTA County Cup Middlesex Team in 2019,  will be presented with a special award to mark this celebration and success.

The County do not believe in sitting on its laurels and has been very active already in planning the campaign for 2020, with new and exciting initiatives and support  announced for players, parents and coaches.

Here’s to a great 2020.
