Middlesex Tennis Padel Advisory Group

Middlesex Women's Team at County Week 2025

New Advisory Group to launch September 2026

Middlesex Tennis is a dynamic and professional organisation with a history of championing tennis across Greater London. We provide opportunities for all to play, improve, develop and enjoy this wonderful lifelong sport, and we are now extending that same commitment to padel.

Padel is Britain’s fastest-growing sport, with 1,000,000 adults and juniors playing at 551 venues across 1,825 courts as of May 2026. An estimated two thirds of those players also play tennis, making padel a natural extension of Middlesex Tennis’s remit.

To respond to that scale, Middlesex Tennis created a volunteer Padel Trustee role on the board in February 2026.

The Padel Advisory Group will be a new and vital group – established to support that role in progressing padel across the county.

What is the Middlesex Tennis Padel Advisory Group?

  • An advisory group is a collection of individuals who bring unique knowledge and skills which complement the knowledge and skills of the formal board members and professional staff, in order to most effectively progress padel across the county.
  • The Padel Advisory Group will ideally be made up of one or more of three potential groups: stakeholders (especially delivery staff and intended users, including coaches, players and venue operators), intended beneficiaries (Middlesex players at every level, from beginners to competitive), and an evaluation expert.
  • The advisory group does not have formal authority to issue directives; it serves to make recommendations and/or provide key information and materials to progress the padel programme.
  • The Padel Advisory Group will be agile: some sub-groups will be standing (ongoing) and others ad hoc (one-time ‘working groups’), depending on the topic.
  • The advisory group lead can determine how the membership and group size evolves.

Terms of reference for the Padel Advisory Group

  • To provide expert input to enable the Padel Trustee and the group lead to most effectively progress padel across Middlesex.
  • To provide advice on how to measure success, across participation, competitive performance, financial sustainability and inclusion.
  • To help oversee and/or deliver the padel programme, if required.

What are we are looking for?

The Padel Advisory Group’s usefulness depends on the mix of perspectives around the table. We are looking for volunteers who bring at least one, and ideally more, of the following:

  • Playing perspective: current Middlesex padel players at any level, from beginner to competitive.
  • Coaching perspective: LTA-qualified padel coaches active in Middlesex, or coaches working through the LTA Padel pathways.
  • Venue perspective: operators, managers or well-connected members at padel venues across the county.
  • Competition and events perspective: experience of running or officiating tournaments, socials or leagues.
  • Fundraising and commercial perspective: sponsor sales, patron programmes or corporate partnership experience, ideally in sport but not exclusively.
  • Communications and marketing perspective: content, newsletter, social media, brand or PR experience.
  • Safeguarding and governance perspective: experience of running safeguarding in a sport or youth-facing setting.
  • Diversity and inclusion perspective: lived experience of the audiences we are working hardest to welcome, including women returning to sport, players from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds and players with disabilities.
  • Evaluation perspective: experience of measuring participation, impact or programme performance, ideally with a sport, health or community-programme background.

Advisory group membership is voluntary and unpaid. Members should be able to attend quarterly Padel Advisory Group meetings, contribute to sub-groups or ad hoc working groups as topics arise, and be available for occasional short input between meetings.
