Did you know that Middlesex Tennis Chair, Phil Veasey, sits on the Tennis Europe Development Committee?
Phil recently attended the committee’s annual in-person meeting, held this year in Moldova to coincide with the opening of the country’s brand new National Tennis Centre.
The Tennis Europe Development Committee brings together nations from across Europe to collaborate on projects designed to grow, develop and support tennis at every level. One of the major initiatives currently underway is the Erasmus+ Green Tennis Project — a three-year sustainability programme funded by the European Union.
Phil has been closely involved in the project, which has produced an outstanding and highly practical sustainability toolkit for tennis venues, set to be published this autumn.
Importantly, much of the toolkit has been shaped by the principles and work already developed through the Middlesex Tennis sustainability approach. Phil — alongside June Kirkwood, who leads the Middlesex Green Team — has played a key role in contributing to the project and sharing best practice from Middlesex.
Keep an eye out this autumn for the official launch of the toolkit.
Reflecting on the experience, Phil said:
“It’s fantastic to be part of this kind of development forum, and it was also great to see tennis in Moldova progressing so positively.
It was an added bonus to watch Simona Halep and Juan Martín del Potro in action during the National Tennis Centre launch event.
There are always valuable ideas and examples of best practice that we can bring back and apply within Middlesex Tennis.”
