9U Girls & Boys success at Southampton
Andrew Lewandowski, General Manager of Middlesex Tennis, reflects on a great weekend of tennis for the 9U Girls & Boys team at David Lloyd Southampton for the County Cup South Area Finals.
Whilst we were enjoying a really successful awards weekend on Saturday, our 9u teams were competing at the South Area National Finals as part of the LTA County Cup.
The girls kicked off on Saturday, with a 6/0 of Surrey, before beating convincingly, Cambs, Avon and and finally Wiltshire 4/3, who had a very good team.
It was a great performance from our girls who enjoyed a 21 to 3 Win-Loss ratio, and really good on court support from our captains Marina Lavarello and Vic Lapthorne.
The following day the boys achieved 2nd place and a silver medal with spirited performance.
Their campaign started with a narrow loss vs Suffolk 3/3 and Match Tie Break.
The boys bounced back with spirited wins against Berkshire and Avon, and a 4/2 defeat of Surrey.
2nd place was decided on a count back of matches and sets with Surrey claiming gold.
A great weekend for the boys and 10u tennis overall which is being impressively led by Stuart Wilkinson and the wider group of county cup captains and of course some emerging players.
