Chris Green

November 21, 2022

We are very sad to inform you that in the last few days Chris Green the League Secretary passed away. Chris had participated in running the Middlesex Summer Tennis League for over 50 years and was League Secretary from 1987 to his death.

Chris joined Wayfarers juniors during the 1950's and played there all his playing career. When the league started he played for the Wayfarers teams and continued playing regularly to the late 1980's. Chris supported his club as match secretary and club treasurer and was subsequently made an honorary member for his services.

Chris supported the creation of the Middlesex Summer League which began in 1967, firstly as a Divisional Secretary, North West Regional Secretary from 1986 and League Secretary since 1987.For many years he put much effort into running the league but many of the lengthy tasks he undertook have been much reduced due to the coming of the computer and the internet. In particular he spent many hours prior to the beginning of the season getting the match cards, divisional result forms and hand books organised and printed. He then sat in his room collating all of these into envelopes to be sent to the clubs, 120-130 of them, with the correct number of match cards and handbooks. He also put handbooks and divisional sheets in envelopes - 30-40 of them. He worked out the postage, bought the stamps and then took a large heavy bag to the post office to be sent off. It was very rare he made a mistake.
