COUNTY TEAM SELECTION POLICY
18U Team Selection
This is an impartial process led by the team captain in conjunction with the Performance Manager. Selection is based on a number of factors including ranking and knowledge of players - reliability, foreseeable physical fitness, conduct, and a player’s ability to work within the team.
An important consideration when making selections is a player's doubles record, which will be determined through their ranking, the number of events played, performance and results.
The team captain will also assess player's doubles potential though county training practices.
Wildcards can be selected at any time, (i.e. at selection meetings, invited to attend training sessions, asked to participate in a play-off match(es) or be selected as a result of training sessions).The Team Captain will make final decision.
Selection is based on a combination of direct entry players and wildcards as follows:

a) Ranking on a given date. (the selection date)
b) U18 ATP/WTA Ranking
C) ITF up to 1000 - Wildcards – If the Captain chooses not to utilise the wildcard option, the remainder of the team will be selected on the given date based on player ranking on the given date. The selection panel also reserves the right to use a play-off system
- The captain reserves the right to change the team if a player does not attend any of the arranged practice sessions
- All of the selections including the wild cards must be justified through the player demonstrating loyalty, commitment, attitude and team spirit towards all county events and activities relevant to the player.
14U / 12U / 11U Team Selection
Selection is based on a combination of direct entry players and wildcards as follows:

- Direct entry is by ranking on a given date (the selection date).
- The wildcards are to be chosen from the players who were invited to/are attending County Training squads.
- Player's Doubles Record through ranking, number of events played, performance and results.
- If the Captain chooses not to utilise the wildcard option, the remainder of the team will be selected on the given date based on player ranking
- The captain reserves the right to change the team if a player does not attend any one of the arranged practice sessions.
- All of the selections both direct entry the wild cards must be justified through the player demonstrating loyalty, commitment, attitude and team spirit towards all county events and activities relevant to the player.
10U / 9U Team Selection
This is an impartial process led by the team captain, county coaches and performance manager. Selection is based on a number of factors such as knowledge of players, their commitment to game development for the future and performance in competition. - reliability, foreseeable physical fitness, conduct, and a player’s ability to work within the team.
NOTE: As the players are in an their early development stages, competitive results are NOT the sole factor taken into consideration when selecting squads and teams.
Squad selection will be made from the players attending the county training squads (or Regional / National Training squads)
Team Selection will be based on performance by agreement of the team Captain and vice-captain.

- 4–6 girls and 4-6 boys will be selected based on how players competed over the current and over the previous season and performance in County/Regional/National Training squads.
- Performance in Competition (Performance in Grade 2/3/4 competitions, Head to Head Results v Other players)
- Performance and Results in County Practices

- Attitude and behaviour
- Commitment to game development

9
Team:
8-10 players mixed boys and girls
- 4-5 Boys and 4-5 girls will be selected based on how players competed over the current and over the previous season and performance in County/Regional/National Training squads.
- Performance in Competition (Performance in Grade 2/3/4 competitions, Head to Head Results v Other players)
- Performance and Results in County Practices
- Doubles Performance
- Attitude and behaviour
- Commitment to game development
COUNTY TRAINING SELECTION POLICY
The Middlesex Tennis office will send an e-mail to all coaches in Middlesex to invite them to nominate players they wish to be considered for County Training at 8U/9U/10U.
A selection panel consisting of the county coach, Head of Middlesex Performance Tennis, will then make the final selection based on the following:
12–18U
The top 6 players (top 8 boys and girls for 18&U) based on ranking on a set date will automatically be invited. The next 6 players will be selected by the panel based on a combination of the following factors:
- Player ranking
- Player rating or WTN
- Level of involvement within LTA performance structure (National, Regional)
- Winner of County Closed event: automatic selection
- Performance in preceding County events/other external tournaments
- Attitude, Sportsmanship and Behaviour
- Commitment to a regular training programme
- Attention to future game development
8U/9U/10U
All players will be selected by the panel based on a mixture of the following factors:
- Performance at Middlesex Selection Sessions *
- Winner of County Closed event: automatic selection
- Performance in preceding County events/other external tournaments
- Attitude, Sportsmanship and Behaviour
- Commitment to a regular training programme
- Attention to future game development
*Players may be invited to Middlesex Selection Sessions based on Coach recommendation validated through tournament performance.
Players selected will receive an e-mail from Middlesex tennis where information of the training dates, times, venue and payment will be detailed. Players will be expected to pay for their County Training to cover the costs of coaches and court fees.
12 Counties, The Salisbury Cup and Other Friendlies
Selection for these events is determined by the Performance Manager, Performance Advisory Group and relevant Team captain.
The purpose of these events are both to provide opportunity for a wider range of players to represent the county, as well as to allow captains to make more informed selections for County Cup teams.
