Men 35s Match Report 2018

October 10, 2018

We had a great weekend's tennis last weekend and came 3rd and safe in group 2 for another year. Everyone gave their all and were so close in a couple of matches which could have swung it but very happy to have come away safe as with 3 matches it can quickly go against you.

Friday V Herts Lost 2-1

Shola lost a close match 6-3, 7-5 after having 2 set points at 5-4 but the other guy was serving and serving huge.

Doubles

Slow start from Preston and Bray losing 4-6 but really got into the match and the 2nd set had points to go 3-0 up but couldn’t take the point. Unfortunately losing 7-5.

Damian won his singles and was in control the whole match winning 6-4, 6-1

Saturday morning v Surrey lost 2-1

Shola lost the singles in 3,

Great first set and Shola couldn’t missed then Surrey got back into it And took it in a 3rd set tie beak

Andy Bray and Richard Pannell

Lost the first set (1 break) but we’re playing well and we’re 5-2 down and 40-0 3 match points down and a double break in the 2nd set before they really turned it around to go 6-5 up and surrey serving. unfortunately Surrey were 2 solid and held serve and won the tie break.

Damian Nzekwu

Won his singles 6-4, 6-1 and was again in control of majority of any rallies and was cool on the important points. Although we lost it was an important rubber incase of rain on the sunday as meant we 3rd and safe.

Saturday afternoon/ evening v Gloucestershire won 3-0 (decided to play in the evening as Sunday was looking a wash out which was a good call)
Andy Bray and Preston 6-2, 6-1. Always in control and both barely missed a ball.
Shola singles won in 3 sets. Was in control the first set playing well and just let Gloucestershire back in in the 2nd set. Great 3rd set match tie-break to win the match.
Damian singles - played his usual top self and was only player with 100% win ratio. He won in style.

Unfortunately no joy getting Luke Milligan’s to play otherwise we would be having a great chance of winning group 1 with him and Damian as number 2. Aiming to definitely get another player at least for nest year when we go back to 5 rubber matches. Our team were brilliant and almost came 2nd but 1 more strong singles player to help Damian out would be great. Not that Shola didn’t give his all and is great for the squad but would give us some other options and Shola could also play in the doubles.
