Winter County Cup Update

November 28, 2022

An extremely close finish to the county cup this weekend with both teams finishing third in their respective groups. Women are relegated to division 2 and Men stay in division 2.

Women's Team - Division 1 -Bath

A positive start to the weekend with a 5/4 win on the first day v Surrey. With injuries hitting the team, this led to a 3-6 defeat to Yorkshire with four three set matches. On Sunday Women played Kent with all eventualities still open. Middlesex pushed Kent all the way to a 4-4 draw and leading in the final doubles when play stopped. As Surrey produced a big defeat against Yorkshire this pushed Middlesex down into third place regardless of the result v Kent and relegation into division two.

The women's team this year was very young with six under 18 players in the side. We are very pleased that these young players performed so well, and can now feature more regularly.

The men having suffered a telling defeat against Yorkshire on the Friday, bounced back well ,and lost narrowly (4/5) to Warwickshire on the final doubles. Middlesex men convincingly beat a good Berkshire side 5/2 on the final day to avoid relegation.

The team were challenged by selection and injury issues, and a last minute side performed really well. I was overall very impressed by the team spirit and professionalism shown by both of our teams.
